The Money Is In The Email List, But Why?

If you knew there was something you could do that would drastically improve your chances of success and it didn’t involve any shady or spammy tricks, would you be interested?

Your thinking to yourself, here we go again, another dude trying to sell me on his get rich quick scheme.

The fact is, there is something you can do to improve your chances of long-term success and it is often overlooked.

The email list.

It’s no scam, it’s been said a thousand times before and it will continue to be said, the money is in the email list.

You hear it so often from so many people that it must be true, right?

Well, it is.

Many of the biggest online marketers have one thing in common when it comes to email lists; they all wish they had started building theirs from the very beginning.

Email marketing is still the best way to connect with those that have an interest in what you have to offer while avoiding the shot-in-the-dark approach.

What is an email list?

An email list starts with collecting email addresses on your blog through a sign up form. The list is stored in a database with an email marketing service that allows you to send out regular updates on blog posts, special offers or a newsletter for example.

Email marketing services such as AWeber, offer services that send automated emails and provide other features to control the list functions. They also provide statistical information to gauge what is working and what is not.

Autoresponders do exactly what they say, they autoresponder to email requests. When a visitor subscribes to your list, a customizable automatic email is sent out thanking them and asking them to verify their email address. You’ve seen them before.

One of the biggest reason for using email marketing services, is they allow you to send out large batches of emails that your website host may not allow.

Several WordPress plugins can capture emails and allow you to send out updates to your subscribers. I don’t recommend this approach because, of security and bandwidth reasons. Most web hosts don’t allow you to send mass emails anyway.

Why is it so important?

Despite the fact that spammers give email marketing a bad name, it is still the most powerful sales tool you can have in your arsenal. And, everyone has an email account or two.

Your email list isn’t just random visitors to your blog, they are the readers that trusted you enough to give you their email. You now have a captive audience, and you have the opportunity to deepen your relationships ultimately turning them into devoted fans.

The more you prove to them that you are dedicated to sending them valuable information, the more trust and credibility you build and the more willing they are to buy from you.

What about social media?

No matter how much time you spend on social media and other types of communication, it will never give you the opportunity to connect directly with your readers like your email list will.

Here are a few statistics that reaffirm the potential of an email list.

According to Salesforce, 44% of email list recipients made at least one purchase last year based on a promotional email. And, 33% of email recipients opened emails based on the subject line alone.

They also state that personalized subject lines are 22.2% more likely to be opened than a generic subject line. Further, 7 out of 10 people say they took advantage of coupons or discounts from a marketing email.

You can’t ignore statistics like that and I hope they open your eyes to the possibilities.

What can I do with my list?

Your email list is a great way to let your readers know about updates to your blog and promote events and company news. You are periodically reminding them of why they subscribed to your list by providing value and solving problems.

But the most important reason for having an email list is the ability to notify them of new products and services. You have already jumped the initial hurdle of getting them to subscribe, so your chances of success increase.

Email lists for the affiliate marketer

If you are an affiliate marketer and you are not collecting emails on your blog, you are sending the very core of your existence to other sites where they collect the valuable information. And, they use the information for a chance to generate follow up sales.

When you send a visitor into the wild blue yonder without collecting their email, you have just lost an opportunity. More importantly, you have lost the opportunity to build on your initial success and form long-term relationships.

Don’t let all of your hard work result in a one-time sale.

So, now you know how imperative it is to build your list. Here are some services that can help you get up and running. Some are free and some are paid so do your research and choose the one the best fits your needs and expected growth.
